When busy is better than boring
Well. I'm trying to maintain my sense of hope and optimism. It's hard but it's the only way I'm going to get through this bed rest and (hopefully) carry this little man all the way to 36 weeks. He is poking me right now as if to say, "of course we'll make it Mama! We made a deal while you were on bed rest in the hospital and taking a shower, remember? Totally agreed to 37 weeks if I recall, so I'll do my part if you do yours."
I'm putting a lot of words into Jackson's mouth ;) but I between Jesse and I...talkativeness is a trait he is likely to inherit! Jackson really is doing well, thank goodness. We had our first NST on Friday. My mom took me which was awesome of her. We had to drive around the parking lot forever to find a spot which I know aggravated her though she didn't let on of course :) She is so good to me. Then we had to drop off my 24hour UA on 1st floor. Icky. Thank goodness that one is over. Then we hurried over to my appointment on 4th floor only to find out that we were 30 min early thanks to the automated appointment reminder message that was left on my phone. Oh well though because they had no other NSTs going on at the time so they basically took us right back!
I discovered that they do a quick little u/s prior to the NST to measure my fluid levels (which makes sense with my high bp, risk for IUGR etc) and so that they know baby's position and can find the heartbeat right away without searching all over. So they hooked Jackson right up. At first he was in the 135 range which I thought was a little odd because he was higher in the hospital...but then I remembered the labetalol does that. So I started casually talking to my mom when I noticed a little pattern. Each time I would talk...his heart rate would trend right up into the 14o's and 150's! This means he had a nice, reactive NST which is exactly what they want. It also means he responds to my voice! I mean, I've read that he does this of course...but to sit and observe it?...
